Friday night found us at my ole Alma Marta, Carson-Newman College, for their lyric theatre production of My Fair Lady. And the leading lady, Jody Barker (not even a music or theatre major!!!), ran off with the show. She was so magnificent that only the freshman music education major Ethan Tyler Hogan, playing Alfred Doolittle, could compare. Back in our college days, Ben and I were frequent patrons of the various theatre productions in our area, and it feels like it’s been so long since we have left our comfortable house to see any plays. After a stressful week, going to see the play was a rather last-minute decision on Ben’s part to help ease my peace of mind–and it was a most excellent remedy. The cast had less than a month to put together this production and carried it off very well. Even in an over-exuberant bout of dancing after Eliza properly pronounces her words, when Colonel Pickering, played by Destry Cloud, fell OVER his chair, the cast maintained their composure and continued on as if it was meant to have happened. I was rather surprised to see that I did not recognize a single name in the playbill–not even the director or musical director; I suppose I have finally grown away from my college days. It was a wonderful way to spend a stormy Friday night.
And tonight, after a hellacious day of working all by myself on a Saturday afternoon, we traveled up to the big city of Knoxville to visit our friends, Joe and Angela, and celebrate a belated birthday, an early birthday, and to warm their somewhat-new apartment together. It was a wonderful way to spend our Saturday night, beginning at one of our favourite restaurants, Taste of Thai and then moving on to their almost-new apartment. Joined by the adorable Lu and Mitchell, it was a wonderful small group of people and a nice relaxing and fun night. Ended by driving back to our small abode and partaking in the unbelievably scrumtrulescent Ben & Jerry’s Pumpkin Cheesecake ice cream before curling up into the comfort and warmth of bed.
And tomorrow is only Sunday!!!
